Dr. Tre Wentling currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s and Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Research and teaching expertise include social inequality, sexuality studies, transgender studies, identity and citizenship.

A first-generation college graduate, he earned his doctor of philosophy degree in Sociology from Syracuse University’s (SU) Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Women’s and Gender Studies from SU’s College of Arts and Sciences. He attended UCCS for his Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology.

Dr. Tre, along with Abby L. Ferber (University of Colorado Colorado Springs) and Kimberly Holcomb, is an editor of the anthology: Sex, Gender, and Sexuality: The New Basics (Oxford University Press, 3rd ed. 2017). Other publications can be found in Outside the Gender Box: Trans and Non-Binary Gender People in Higher Education (forthcoming);TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly; Teaching Gender and Sex in Contemporary America; and Teaching Sociology.

He serves in the role of Institute Faculty for the Knapsack Institute; is a member of Editorial Advisory Board for Understanding and Dismantling Privilege; a reviewer for TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, Gender & Society, American Sociological Review; and stays engaged in regional and national conferences around the U.S.
